As a member of the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity group, Martin regularly advises clients with respect to compliance with Canadian federal and provincial privacy laws. He assists clients with the development and implementation of privacy policies and procedures, organization-wide data governance programs, and privacy compliant marketing and other business initiatives. He also drafts and negotiates vendor contracts and other agreements that involve the handling of personal information.
In the cybersecurity field, Martin works closely with clients and outside security experts to manage and respond to cybersecurity risks. He has acted as counsel in numerous complex data breach and cybersecurity incidents, including ransomware attacks, business e-mail compromise cases and sophisticated hacking and phishing attacks. He also advises clients regarding cybersecurity preparedness, helping to implement incident response plans and conduct risk assessments.
As a member of the firm’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications group, Martin assists clients with the negotiation and drafting of agreements relating to the commercialization of technology and related services, including software and technology licensing agreements, software development agreements, maintenance and support agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and terms of use. He also advises clients in relation to various other technology and internet related legal matters, including compliance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Law.

Prior to being called to the Bar, Martin served as a law clerk to six judges of the British Columbia Supreme Court.
